Decluttering Me! Discovering the Marie Kondo way to declutter PART 4 - BOOKS

Hello there,

I'm dealing with books which aren't as easy as clothes. Not easy at all. So I've broken a few rules already with my categories

  • Keepers - sparks of joy
  • Leavers - no spark of joys
  • Five chapter test - for books where no joy but haven't read
  • Writing technique books - still needs to test.
So fair I have nearly three boxes of books to discard.

Quite a good selection - like my cookbooks - I've put about six in the leaving box. Mostly because the recipes weren't unique and I no longer cook as much. Most of them were also celebrity cookbooks so Gwyneth Paltrow, Carol Vonnderman and a few others. I've kept the sliver spoon and another reference book and a few others - just the books with classic recipes.

A few writing books are going and also non-fiction.

However the cheat are the maybes....the plan is to read the first five chapters then decide, normally I'm done by the first page or two. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS BUT I AM.

With this process of elimination, I've been about to increase the non-keeper books. Also I'm recovering books I actually like.

This is probably going to be the longest process....nah....I still have papers. I still have papers to sort.

So far so good.

Yay

Annaxx

Show me your desk: Books, magazines, bottle of water, and same old clutter.

Today I have more of a writerly desk, so let's roll. From the far left handside is my writing magazine, I treat myself to it, and it has some interesting articles at times. It's just something I flick though the way other people buy GQ, Vougue or Marie Claire. It's my monthly interest magazine, and no I don't do the writing exercises but then who buys all the clothes, make-up and perfume advertised in the high-end women's magazines.  Next is a bottle of vitamins, this was a gift from Sis. Yes, as you probably realise, Sis is very generous with her gifts as they are normally featured on my desk. If fact the Apple Notebook is also one.  A small fact is that I bought my first phone only two years ago because for the last ten years, Sis gave me all her hand-me-downs. She's very on top of technology - ahead of the curve, wave or early adaptor.  Anyway she got me them because she's into healthy eating and body care, and probably got them on discount. ...

Had coffee with a fellow writer, went to an exhibition on West Africa: Word, Symbol, Song at the British Library.

There was a massive Disney Christmas tree at St Pancras Station.  I thought I'd start with that picture. Implemented Accounting Guru Genius (AGG)  method this morning. I mentioned yesterdays she showed me her way of planning. Well it's kinda like project management critical path and working back but in AGG's way.  Well the results where what I sort of knew but it's official. I do too much. I've got so much on that I have make very slow progress with anything then end up procrastinating. So I really need to learn and get this planning and time management method under my belt. The only reason is that it's kinda the only thing I actually got. When AGG first did it, I was amazed. It was so impressive. I kinda forgot about it but it's coming up to the end of the year, and I've made great progress with some goals and projects but others are still hanging. Anyway after putting in all my hours I realised I only had a certain amount of free time. Not a...

Up Date on Happenings: Newly Single & 17% pay raise.

Hey Everyone, So update since my last entry. Well I had a brief fling with Mr Sexy Guy and decided he wasn't the one for me. He was cool but I learned the difference between lust, chemistry and personality. It just didn't tango for me. I'm still grossly overweight, well, fat. I don't think there is anything wrong with being called fat. I am fat. I need to lose weight but that means getting organised and stop eating delicious food. Then again my knees are hurting me and joints feel the ache. I also haven't been to the gym in three months despite paying for it. But when I do, I normally go for the sauna, hot tub and   steam room session. I've thought of cancelling the exorbitant membership but in the climate apart from bills it's the one thing that is just for me...that when I use it. Work is fine, managed to get a 17% pay raise. A big thanks to my boss who also pushed for it. It's good to work for people who support you in that matter. I think tha...
