Project #1: Finish book 2 in my main series-in-progress

Progress this month

I have decided to make this my main focus for now rather than spread myself thin. So far I have completed 56% of this draft round.

DetailWord Countpercentage
Original75,219100%
Revised41,92256%
balance33,29744%

This is more or less a loose line edit draft so though I thought this was the final draft,  I'm probably going to do a few other passes.

In this draft, I'm looking at how the story flows on a scene, paragraph and sentence level. I have deleted a few scenes, a work here and there. I'm also doing it in small word count batches so I don't get fatigued.

What I mean is rather than do a whole chapter  at a time or even scene , I only do about 200 words at a time. Small batches means it's simpler to focus on rather than getting fatigued.

My process in case any one is interested is.

  • skim the story
  • listen via Text To Speech
  • Grammar check
  • repeat

To Do Next Month - March

Basically just carry on.

Issues, risks, blockers: Probably time, as I need to commit more time to my job search and when I get a new role, I may have less time for this.

Project 8 Complete LinkedIn Learning course

Progress for this month

I've enjoyed parts of it even though I'm primarily doing it for CPD/CPE units. I thought it would be boring and dry but not really. I guess my concern with doing these courses is I have a wider picture and not really sure I want to stay in my profession or that my work makes a difference.

CPD-CPE Credit tracker 8 of 40 which is 20% complete.

To Do Next Month: Carry on

issues, risks, blockers: None so far apart from motivation since it can be boring.

Project #5: Review & consolidate other writing information on Google drive

Progress for this month

I finally reviewed a selection of the files. I did this using years starting in 2014 working to 2017 and I discovered looking at a selection via the preview in google drive most belonged to old incomplete projects or works-in-progress.

At the moment, I am hesitant to delete any of these files because these projects are on my pipeline list.

I also noticed I have 80 folders so I'm curious as to why.  Perhaps I should take the folder by folder  approach.

File TypeNumber
Googledocs 1,230 just writing, backups and general stuff.1,230
Spreadsheet 106 - these are mostly for plotting or storing numbers stuff.106
Presentations - 26 some from workshops or just where I store pictures etc.26
Images - 332 images - mostly setting and stuff.332
PDFs - 445445
Videos - 39 mostly backup from courses39
Archive - zips file 59 - backups59
Audio files - 44
Drawings Google drive also classes Photoshop files as this 8989
Total 2,330

The new approach would be something like this.

The first step would be to do a file audit

Folder numberMain DriveFolder #1Folder #2
subfolders
Googledoc
spreadsheets
Presentation slides

PDFs
videos
Audio files
drawings
Total files
Folder numberFolder #5Folder #5Folder #7

Need to see how it goes.

To Do Next Month - file audit per folder

New issues, risks, blockers - boredom and time

Show me your desk: Books, magazines, bottle of water, and same old clutter.

Today I have more of a writerly desk, so let's roll. From the far left handside is my writing magazine, I treat myself to it, and it has some interesting articles at times. It's just something I flick though the way other people buy GQ, Vougue or Marie Claire. It's my monthly interest magazine, and no I don't do the writing exercises but then who buys all the clothes, make-up and perfume advertised in the high-end women's magazines.  Next is a bottle of vitamins, this was a gift from Sis. Yes, as you probably realise, Sis is very generous with her gifts as they are normally featured on my desk. If fact the Apple Notebook is also one.  A small fact is that I bought my first phone only two years ago because for the last ten years, Sis gave me all her hand-me-downs. She's very on top of technology - ahead of the curve, wave or early adaptor.  Anyway she got me them because she's into healthy eating and body care, and probably got them on discount. ...

Up Date on Happenings: Newly Single & 17% pay raise.

Hey Everyone, So update since my last entry. Well I had a brief fling with Mr Sexy Guy and decided he wasn't the one for me. He was cool but I learned the difference between lust, chemistry and personality. It just didn't tango for me. I'm still grossly overweight, well, fat. I don't think there is anything wrong with being called fat. I am fat. I need to lose weight but that means getting organised and stop eating delicious food. Then again my knees are hurting me and joints feel the ache. I also haven't been to the gym in three months despite paying for it. But when I do, I normally go for the sauna, hot tub and   steam room session. I've thought of cancelling the exorbitant membership but in the climate apart from bills it's the one thing that is just for me...that when I use it. Work is fine, managed to get a 17% pay raise. A big thanks to my boss who also pushed for it. It's good to work for people who support you in that matter. I think tha...

Had coffee with a fellow writer, went to an exhibition on West Africa: Word, Symbol, Song at the British Library.

There was a massive Disney Christmas tree at St Pancras Station.  I thought I'd start with that picture. Implemented Accounting Guru Genius (AGG)  method this morning. I mentioned yesterdays she showed me her way of planning. Well it's kinda like project management critical path and working back but in AGG's way.  Well the results where what I sort of knew but it's official. I do too much. I've got so much on that I have make very slow progress with anything then end up procrastinating. So I really need to learn and get this planning and time management method under my belt. The only reason is that it's kinda the only thing I actually got. When AGG first did it, I was amazed. It was so impressive. I kinda forgot about it but it's coming up to the end of the year, and I've made great progress with some goals and projects but others are still hanging. Anyway after putting in all my hours I realised I only had a certain amount of free time. Not a...
