Test driving & Review: Abode illustrator 2023 release by Brian Wood: 0 Lesson - A Quick Tour Of Adobe Illustrator (2023 release)

Yes, I'm back again. The Substack thing didn't work out and I'm going to get email list which will alert when I have new content for  those who like reading the blog.

Abode Illustrator 2023 release by Brian Wood

I got this book out and yes, I know 2024 is out but I thought this was good enough. My main goal is to make my new book cover using illustration. There are 16 lessons and one introductory one which I call lesson 0.

A Quick Tour Of Adobe Illustrator (2023 release)

The introductory lesson is suppose to be a quick tour around the software with an image at the end. This is mine below.
Crafty supplies lesson 0

It was supposed to take only 30 minutes but took me longer, over three days but I didn't time it. Above is the result and a lot of things I had do to over and over again before it sunk it.

However you can register the copy and get a digital version with the lesson files. I didn't because I need to run through it. I could have done this with social media - youtube and other platforms with tuturials but I find it difficult to watch and do at the same time. I'd rather work from a book and make notes in the margin.

I have photoshop experience but I've found Illustrator a bit hit and miss so I've decided to do it this way to see if I can get the results I want. Normally, I like working from tutorials but I am trying the classroom book this time.

So far so good but too early to make any comments on how good it it. There are some annoying bits where I've had to google the answer because the instructions were unclear. Like the gradient section, I think the instructions were muddled up and also my brushes don't have labels but I don't know.

Then again, I learn the proper terms and some things were explained in a simple way eg stroke, fill, gradients eg. People tend to over complicate these terms.

So far it seems okay. 16 more lessons to go.

Show me your desk: Books, magazines, bottle of water, and same old clutter.

Today I have more of a writerly desk, so let's roll. From the far left handside is my writing magazine, I treat myself to it, and it has some interesting articles at times. It's just something I flick though the way other people buy GQ, Vougue or Marie Claire. It's my monthly interest magazine, and no I don't do the writing exercises but then who buys all the clothes, make-up and perfume advertised in the high-end women's magazines.  Next is a bottle of vitamins, this was a gift from Sis. Yes, as you probably realise, Sis is very generous with her gifts as they are normally featured on my desk. If fact the Apple Notebook is also one.  A small fact is that I bought my first phone only two years ago because for the last ten years, Sis gave me all her hand-me-downs. She's very on top of technology - ahead of the curve, wave or early adaptor.  Anyway she got me them because she's into healthy eating and body care, and probably got them on discount. ...

Had coffee with a fellow writer, went to an exhibition on West Africa: Word, Symbol, Song at the British Library.

There was a massive Disney Christmas tree at St Pancras Station.  I thought I'd start with that picture. Implemented Accounting Guru Genius (AGG)  method this morning. I mentioned yesterdays she showed me her way of planning. Well it's kinda like project management critical path and working back but in AGG's way.  Well the results where what I sort of knew but it's official. I do too much. I've got so much on that I have make very slow progress with anything then end up procrastinating. So I really need to learn and get this planning and time management method under my belt. The only reason is that it's kinda the only thing I actually got. When AGG first did it, I was amazed. It was so impressive. I kinda forgot about it but it's coming up to the end of the year, and I've made great progress with some goals and projects but others are still hanging. Anyway after putting in all my hours I realised I only had a certain amount of free time. Not a...

Up Date on Happenings: Newly Single & 17% pay raise.

Hey Everyone, So update since my last entry. Well I had a brief fling with Mr Sexy Guy and decided he wasn't the one for me. He was cool but I learned the difference between lust, chemistry and personality. It just didn't tango for me. I'm still grossly overweight, well, fat. I don't think there is anything wrong with being called fat. I am fat. I need to lose weight but that means getting organised and stop eating delicious food. Then again my knees are hurting me and joints feel the ache. I also haven't been to the gym in three months despite paying for it. But when I do, I normally go for the sauna, hot tub and   steam room session. I've thought of cancelling the exorbitant membership but in the climate apart from bills it's the one thing that is just for me...that when I use it. Work is fine, managed to get a 17% pay raise. A big thanks to my boss who also pushed for it. It's good to work for people who support you in that matter. I think tha...
