Daily Writing Journal - #12 Procrastination may still be a problem.

I'm still reading the Procrastination book. Yes, that's about it. Oh, and I got one more subscribers for my email list. Yay! So I'm sending out my first newsletter soon. I'm probably going to skip tomorrow and write my next update or non-update on the first. Are you doing anything nice for New Years Eve?  Normally, I just stay at home and see it in. A long time ago, I used to go clubbing, then seeing the fireworks. I did Waterloo twice until it became a ticketed event. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!! -----------------------------------------------------------  Check out Bigga Day's books on Smashwords.com https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/bigga Apple iBooks https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/bigga-day/id595585425?mt=11 Barnes and Nobles http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/bigga-day Kobo http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/Search?query=Bigga%20Day&fcsearchfield=Author

Daily Writing Journal - my urban lit African American romance. - #11 wrote a bit, went shopping in the London SALES got a new keyboard. Procrastination is reducing...

Writing? Yes, I managed a bit. Then I got stuck again because of Angelica's dress. Yes, her dress. In the rough draft I didn't take account of her dress in the cute meet. Now the dress is important so I spent time surfing to find the right dress. But couldn't. However I got inspired by some designs and sketched something rough. However I need to do a little more. But at least I started. Is the Procrastination book working? Yes it is because I caught up on some long overdue tasks. I bought myself a posterior support - basically a new toilet seat. I was thinking of getting a fancy New York one but it was sold out. So I just got a plain white one instead.  Then I went to the London West End. I need to get some work  skirts clothes but found nothing. I didn't like the skirts so the hunt is still on, or I lose weight to fit into what I already had. However I did get some nice socks half price from Marks & Spencer, some pyjama bottoms and tight/pantyhose.

Daily Writing Journal - my urban lit African American romance. - #10 still no writing....will my excuse wash? Procrastination is still going strong.

It's Holidays! Yes, and the sales are out! So I got myself a lovely new computer for the New Year. It's quite funny because I got a Dell monitor and it's really just cheap plastic! I kid you not. So what has this got to do with writing? Nothing. Nothing at all but I thought to make some conversation. I've not even done a synopsis and I was doing so well with those too. So what exactly am I doing? Well, I went for a massage which was lovely and I thought lots about writing. I also visited Scribophile trying to stay out of feisty forum debates.  You know the forum debates where someone starts a clickbait discussion that quickly escalates into something huge because everyone on the internet is right. Right even with opposing ideas. Then eventually the forum gets closed. I think now we operate a three strike action against forum offenders - those who break the TOS. I think they lose some sort of privileges - not sure if it stops them.  Procrastination.  So with all thi

Daily Writing Journal - my urban lit African American romance. - #9 Christmas was good! Ate lots. Didn't write.

Hope  Christmas was good for you! So again nothing in terms of writing.  Christmas dinner was lovely. I had plenty to eat and was stuffed. Utterly stuffed. I haven't even done a synopsis. All I wanted to do when I came home was sleep. And now I'm off for more food. So I haven't really though about writing in the last few days. Write everyday they say. Don't know if that is possible so  I'm taking the holidays off for some inner reflection. Now I'm off.. -----------------------------------------------------------  Check out Bigga Day's books on Smashwords.com https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/bigga Apple iBooks https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/bigga-day/id595585425?mt=11 Barnes and Nobles http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/bigga-day Kobo http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/Search?query=Bigga%20Day&fcsearchfield=Author

Daily Writing Journal - my urban lit African American romance. - #8 IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE! LAST MINUTE SHOPPING! HAPPY HOLIDAY!

NOPE. NADA. NONE. I've been busy to be honest with Christmas preparations. Very busy and I still have number of gifts to buy. So not writing or it isn't on my agent. I've also need to help with Christmas cooking so yes that's it for me. Normally I just turn up. However I am thinking maybe I'll have a Christmas scene in my book. I left the house at 6.15ish am and met Big Mamma  for some shopping. Got to Sainsburys who had decided to open at 7 am. We originally wanted to go to Marks & Spencer. However Big Mamma thought they opened at 7am. Anyway we got there about 6.45am so decided have a coffee in McDonalds. However opposite McD was Marks & Spencers. So we had a drink, and afterwards decided to Marks & Spencer's first, only to find out it opened at 6.30am. It was packed with the early birds last minute rush. The next rush is will be about mid-day when most offices close. We got what we needed, nipped into Sainburys for the rest and then came hom

Daily Writing Journal - #7 my urban lit African American romance. Wrote words and made self-discovery

Day Seven of writing a journal, not bad. At least I'm writing. Yesterday, I managed to write. I did about 800 words or so but still not the cute meet. Then I thought, I've been writing for a very long time, so what is the problem? It beggars belief that I'm stalling on this. Silly really. I guess it's down the self-criticism and that can have a crippling effect on anything. Thinking that nothing I wrote will meet the standard. Whose standard? I don't know. It's like I expect things to be perfect, flow perfectly from the pen and that expectation can be crippling. And make me procrastinate but it's really just getting down to it.  Okay good words of wisedom but will it make writing any easier? Now for synopsis time. I've taken a different approach this time and focused on Leyton rather than Angelica. Synopsis Time The  Forechester Thomas boys keep the blogs in news with their antics. From childhood to adulthood, these boys have been the best of f

Daily Writing Journal - #6 my urban lit African American romance. Went Christmas Shopping in House of Fraser and John Lewis.

Not much going. Well, it's Christmas! I went shopping yesterday after work to get some presents. I still have plenty more. House of Fraser is a good place to go. I feel it misses a lot of traffic because it's in between John Lewis and Debenhams.  I'm talking about departmental stores on Oxford Street, London. Okay let's talk about writing. Or maybe not. It's the festive season. In John Lewis , they also had the Elton John Experience. That was nice. I feel compelled to show some pictures but that means downloading all the pictures in my phone. I'll get more organised about this as I go along. Then again this is just a journal of my writing. So writing, well I said I'd skip that but I did manage to write another synopsis. What do you think? Synopsis Angelica Washington is a strong woman takes family responsibility seriously, but things aren't always as perfect as they seem .  A bad family ordeal and an impulsive urge leads her to the arms of a h

Daily Writing Journal - #5 my urban lit African American romance. Stuck on cute meet. Writing has stall. Blogger lost my post.

So this is my second post today, for some reason the blogger had problem so it got deleted. Charming. Oh well, so I've saved a screen shot of the synopsis from the preview. I didn't even know the previews were pictures and not text. I was going to copy and past but realised I couldn't. So writing has stalled yet again. I'm not doing very well on this 1000 word count again. I think I may need a different approach. I'm also trying to apply a few techniques I learnt at my writing course but that isn't going too well either. So what is going well you ask? Don't know. I'm just going to have to alter my approach. Maybe go back to my old way of writing and see how I can slowly introduce this new way. Who knows.. -----------------------------------------------------------  Check out Bigga Day's books on Smashwords.com https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/bigga Apple iBooks https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/bigga-day/id595585425?mt=11 B

Daily Writing Journal - #4 my urban lit African American romance. The cute meet is up next for a rewrite.

I need to be  little more organised. I wrote a bit and wasn't happy. Then I wrote some more and thought, nah. You know the chapter I scrapped?  I read it again and decided to leave it in. How do go organised people write? Anyway now I'm moving on to the cute meet.  Yes when they finally meet. I'm sure I'll have plenty drafts of this scene. It needs to sizzle. Anyway here is my next synopsis... So this is my next synopsis written but it isn't going to be a Christmas story though so elements may change. It's the winter is affecting my setting elements. It's cold and lonesome in Forechester city. I've planned a 1000 words a day but that is clearly not happening. I was supposed to finish in March, hmmm we shall see. I may change the elements to summer... Synopsis  ANGELICA WASHINGON has plenty of problems and she's not about to make a man one of them! But a steamy night of passion  with the blue-eyed LEYTON THOMAS may change that all. It's

Daily Writing Journal - Editing my African American & urban lit love story: #3 Still stuck on the second scene of urban lit love story, and word count is zero

So the scene in my urban love story isn't not working. It really isn't. I just can't seem to get it right. It seems dull. I'm supposed to be writing 1000 words. Then I got distracted thinking about key words. So African American romance, people of colour romance, urban lit love story but no street characters per se. Yes, I'm also fiddling around with my layout... new #3 synopsis for my urban love story or African American romance.  ANGELICA WASHINGTON'S rare partying on a cold winter's night turns into a steamy intimate encounter with a dark blue-eyed stranger. Letting go of her normal cautious nature, ANGELICA submits her impulses thinking she'll never meet the handsome sexy stranger again. Circumstances bring them together and they continue their hot passionate affair. One rule. Sex only. But the handsome blue-eyed stranger,  LEYTON THOMAS finds out he wants more, and his lust is slowly turning to love. The prospect of things turning serious i

Daily Writing Journal: African American & Urban lit love story novel: #2 Where will they meet, another synopsis

I didn't manage any new word count yesterday. Bo! This morning I work up ready to write but found myself on Facebook writing comments, and then on Scribophile answering another post. PROCRASTINATE AT IT'S WORSE. I'm in a fix. My character is upset but I don't know where to locate the scene. In the park?  A cafe? Her friend's beauty shop? Where? Where? On this is where inspiration leaves me. I need to know....Should I just guess? Oh where is my inspiration? Okay let's roll with synopsis #2 Cautious  ANGELICA WASHINGTON  was her family’s go-to strong woman, had a successful career and played mother to her brother’s children– until drama struck a family therapy session. From that moment everything went wrong. A night at the club, leads  ANGELICA  to overcome her cautious ways and spend a night of intimacy with a dark blue-eyed stranger. It was supposed to be for one night only but circumstances lead them back to each other, and many passionate nigh

Daily Writing Journal: Editing the Third Novel: #1 Cutting the beginning.

The Novel Editing Plan I have blocked all my social media links so I can focus on this project - well at least for 24 hours at a time - twitter, facebook and others. I need an outlet so I shall record most days something here.  I plan to edit and rewrite my entire novel by March 19. I have about 80,000 words planned. Or less. I've just rewritten the first 860 words and decided the beginning must GO! It was nice but didn't have anything to do with the romance. Yes, I'm writing a romance. So now I'm planning to rewrite chapter two. Synopsis Practice of the Day. LEYTON and ANGELICA  are from opposite sides of town. He is a control freak CEO and she is an executive assistant and office manager with a side hustle at the local's farmer market, selling food.  One night of intimacy turns into a rollercoaster search for love... How does it sound? Good? Back to writing. -----------------------------------------------------------  Check out Bigga Day's

My thoughts & what's On My Mind: Life Goals, Stage in life, Writer vs Publisher dilemma

Long terms goals Today I sat on my bed looking up and ceiling and thinking what next? I have two bigger goals left. Mostly of a personal nature and one I can share. My weight and fitness. I'm definitely overweight and it's affecting my health. I started off on a fitness regime, I'm still paying for the gym but at some point three months ago, I got a bad cold and flu and didn't go. So eating and getting fit will be next...but it's been for a considerably long time, so I'm not sure what. Stage in life I discovered some home truths that makes me deeply grateful for where I am in life, and my parents. It's easy to get caught up in the not having this, regretting that, but I'm thankful. Writer vs Self-Publisher Dilemma Do I write or do I spend time building up my author's platform, and promoting myself? It's easy to get sucked into this whirlpool. With traditionally published writers all they need to do is write the best book they can. W

Cover reveal coming soon....

Hello all! So I'm beavering away at my ebook cover and hoping to reveal it in a few days. It's just a simple cover which just states  ROMANCE!!!! Apart from that my day job has been super busy, as me looking for something new. My contact is coming to an end soon. I've also been taking a course but it will be the book after this where the benefit is seen. This will be my second release in my self publishing experiment. So far I've been delayed by a whole month but I want to get cracking this weekend. I still need to learn to plan releases rather than rush and do it last minute. However early November should be okay to release it. This is more a blog on my writing journey, I do have another purely for books. Yes, I'm a blog-a-holic but it's good to go. Once I've published I'll do lessons learn from two book. Don't ask about sales because I haven't done any marketing and I'm a bit shy about telling people I know. However at some poin

Refocusing on my writing and self-publishing experiment.

Instead of closing the blog, I've decided to focus this blog on my writing and self-publishing experiment. I had this massive plan to self-publish my novel then after going on a editing & pitching course with Curtis Brown Creative school, I decided to query. So before starting go query,  I gave the novel to another reader who wasn't too sure of the commercial market fit. So then I decided to go back to self-publishing. HOWEVER...I didn't really know how to approach it. My story just seemed too big in terms of cost. It would have cost about $1,000 upwards to publish - considering the word count and editorial support. However Scribophile the writing site had a Q&A by a self-publishing expert, David Kadavy, https://kadavy.net/ who suggested it was best to start small and big towards the goal. At least to learn lessons along the way until one is comfortable. So I did that.  IT AN EYE OPENER! So even though I was keeping an eye on costs, I still spend a lot mor

Been a semi-entrepreneur is TOUGH!!! Wolves in Sheep Clothing.....

Hey everyone, Things have been busy! Very busy. I mean my writing. The self publishing world is murky as well as other bad things I shall not mention. But I shall overcome and persevere. Perseverance is the only way forward in this shady murky business.  Yes. I will overcome. I will pray and step forward, keeping in my own lane. Anywho writing is long term, so I can't complain because I've just written a novella. I'm not a one-book writer so I shall persevere and do the next. Other Things I decided to have a podcast about taking on the life of semi-entrepreneur. I'm doing  on youtube so if you want to listen you are welcome.  https://youtu.be/3lOtCdAYfK4 I'll aim for once a week. Other than that, I'm managed to lose about 10 pounds. Yay. I'm wearing clothes. I haven't worn in ages. It's a late but next time I write, I'll give an update on my declutter as well. Keep well. Annax

Decluttering Me! Discovering the Marie Kondo way to declutter PART 4 - BOOKS

Hello there, I'm dealing with books which aren't as easy as clothes. Not easy at all. So I've broken a few rules already with my categories Keepers - sparks of joy Leavers - no spark of joys Five chapter test - for books where no joy but haven't read Writing technique books - still needs to test. So fair I have nearly three boxes of books to discard.   Quite a good selection - like my cookbooks - I've put about six in the leaving box. Mostly because the recipes weren't unique and I no longer cook as much. Most of them were also celebrity cookbooks so Gwyneth Paltrow, Carol Vonnderman and a few others. I've kept the sliver spoon and another reference book and a few others - just the books with classic recipes. A few writing books are going and also non-fiction.  However the cheat are the maybes....the plan is to read the first five chapters then decide, normally I'm done by the first page or two. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS BUT I

Decluttering Me! Discovering the Marie Kondo way to declutter PART 3

Hi all, So I've sorted out ALL my clothes, and makes for about 12 bags of clothes. New, old, tatty, prism etc. I've donated the first two bags I filled when I begun and with the other ten bags, I'm going to see if I can sell some stuff. I also have stuff for recycling so I need to bag that up. All in all a lot of stuff. So the plans are going to a carboot sales. I think of doing it online but I stopped using eBay a long time ago, and really I can't be bothered with the postage. The same with Depo. It's new and sounds fab but it's the same old postage issues and buyers wanting something for nothing. Also I just want this to be an easy process. To be honest it's really shipping/postage that is the big dealer. Also buyers. Saying that before I got bored on my eBay account, I did sell a lot. There are lots of options for reselling but I want minimum hassle so I'm doing it the old fashion way. In a car book sale. So the next stage is books which wil

Decluttering Me! Discovering the Marie Kondo way to declutter PART 2

My after declutter drawers before and after declutter Hello everyone, how are you? So I'm still on the Marie Kondo decluttering mission and decided to do everything. Well I still have a trunk to empty. It's been an emotional journey in terms of who I was, who I was planning to be and where I turned up. I've only put up images of my tidy because I thought someone may like to see evidence, instead of a nice looking Instagram or stock picture. Something to show I'm a real person. By the way, this is a set of drawers from John Lewis. I've forgotten the set's name. Anyway way, moving on. This was the original state of my drawers, some of the clothes have been donated so it's a different set. Cluttered and jumbled drawers Sorting my clothes is telling a narrative of my life. It's quite grey at the moment. But some things were easy to get rid. Nice clothes - even with tags one -  but I never felt them. I have a lovely beaded skirt wh

Discovering the Marie Kondo way to declutter - Tackling Clothes

Hello Internet Family, Things have been so busy at work and preparing for my self publishing venture. Oh man, it has been a journey and I haven't even started. Anyway, I was reading a magazine left into the office kitchen and discovered an article on Marie Kondo. So looking round a few articles I've discover a few tit-bits. I have lots of clutter due to my home being refitted and moving stuff from room to room, then having the hectic jobs. I also have massive of books and papers all over the joint.  Plus you can read about my story about how I struggled to become an associate. Anyway I was so deep in clutter, I could not figure a way out. But yesterday, I read the article and decided to try. I love the folding bit. I haven't read any of her books yet. I mean I have so many so trying to curb the habit. So many books on organisation too -okay about three plus I joined the fly lady group. However I loved the categories not room.  Then again all my stuff is all over the

BIG NEWS! PART OF A WRITING GROUP! WEIGHT LOSS!

Hello Blog reading family, I've got some exciting news! I'm now writing under a writing group. This is awesome. I'm so excited. It's the Wuraola Writing Group. www.wuraola.co.uk  So excited about this. It's all coming together in some sort of way. Other news I'm on a fitness plan. Going to the gym five times a week. No it isn't that deep as I only do a twenty minute walk-run...But I hit 1-1.5km which is good for me. I've also looked into my eating. So a bit boring for now, no cake. Yes, no CAKE....but I was feeling terrible. I felt and looked fat. That is totally different from being fat. I've been fat for a long time but never felt fat not did I look fat in my eyes. Also I had problems due to the weight. So I looked into my weight scale and found I was edging on morbidly obese. I am currently on the wrong end of the obese scale so I want to come down to overweight. I need to lost about 20 pounds for that. Yes, to move from obese to overweigh

Weekly Journal: Decided to be a proper writer, enrolled on a Curtis Brown Creative writing course, Self Publishing Writing Business Plan.

Dear Blog reading Family and Friends, Awful week last week. Really awful. So I had a good thing about going forward. I had to reflect and came to the conclusion that I had to think long term about what I wanted to do. Now I'm not a longer term thinker but at time I need to. I hit a certain age and just started living in the now. But fuck me, last week was hell. I've decided to try thing writing gig and see where it goes. Like when I started in my career I was full of ideas, and innovation but in real life people expect you tow the line. Dance to the piper's tune.  Jump to the puppet master's string. Folks expect you to fall into line and do as you as told. Fine. I can do that but at that point a career becomes a job. Self publishing business plan.  I'm drafting up a self-publishing business plan, which is just a rough draft. I've got a rough three-five year plan. This year is just the base year, where I'm setting up. In Year 1, I expect to hit a

Book Review: A Virgil Flowers Novel By John Sanford.

I tried. Three times. I even read the end hoping to intrigue me. Then I tried again. Nah. Couldn't do it. However, if you love sharp writing, an excellent voice with a good sense of wit and humour, this book is for you. John Sanford is a good writer it's just I wasn't into this. Sometimes that happens. I just thought the plot the was given away in the first three chapters and so I lost interest. The plot was given away in the back of the book, and then more in the first three chapters. I made no connections with the character. Perhaps I wasn't in the mood. Who cares? I didn't so I didn't read the rest. Still available for Amazon if you fancy a sample read. https://www.amazon.com/Deadline-Virgil-Flowers-John-Sandford/dp/0425275183/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_pdt_img_top?ie=UTF8 -----------------------------------------------------------  Check out Bigga Day's books on Smashwords.com https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/bigga Apple iBooks https://itun

Weekly Journal - writing, watched Black Panther - EXCELLENT MOVIE

Dear Internet Family and Friends, I've written two posts abut decided not to post them. They didn't seem appropriate. One was about my experience of parts of the novel writing. I was a bit disillusioned with the process and at a cross roads. Another was commenting on the sexual harassment and Oxfam.  I also wanted to cover Mo'Nique but you know what guys? I don't really know what to say. I have opinions but it's not my things. It's stuff I share off line over a lunch with my colleagues or with real life family. Social commentary isn't my thing especially when my opinion is based on some various reports from others. The above is an image I made, I still need more practice. This graphic designs thing is hard. There is a lot of work to do with fonts types and being precise. I found myself using a calculator to get the measurements right. I also can't seem to find the right pictures or images of models facing the right way. I understand why many do ph

Week ending 18th February 2018: Got a bad cold, lost some weight, still writing.

Hey everyone. Hope you all had a good week. Yes this is just another photoshop practice project. It's not quite there yet, but I'm practicing, and practicing and  practicing. So still looking amateurish. I'm just going to stick to what my teacher said - keep it simple. I've been ill - knocked down with a cold so not much going on. I've not gone out much, and doubt I will next week otherwise I'd probably get another cold. I've lost a 2lb this week, which I put down to making my own lunches, rather than eating out. I have more control over the stuff that goes into my food. The writing is still going well, though I had to prioritise one course over the other. Next I need to start thinking of my marketing plan. I've got some stories I can release form my course and see how those fare. The photoshop classes are great, but I need to keep it simple. I'm just experimenting with these results, but I'll have to get more focus and not try and

My week ending 11 Feb - writing courses, photoshop, beta-reading novel, preparing to self publish....

Hey Everyone, Hope you've all had a good week!  I found I've taken on too much so some of my plans are on the back burner. I also got run down with a bug. I don't know what's a cold or flu or bug. Week's catch up. Work is cool, so much laugher though there is lots to do. It's taking some getting used it. First it's nothing, then full throttle ahead. My ergonomic mouse packed up so I'm using my non-dominant mouse hand, and that's swollen. All I can say its the last time I buy something off a reseller on Amazon. They weren't bad, but it's just now they have referred me to the manufacturer in the USA. I'm in the UK for crying out load. All I can say is always check the warranty on electronics and who take responsibility.  It wasn't a cheap mouse, it cost about $150 or £100. So not happy. Writing classes Going well but hard work. The proof is keeping up the momentum. I'm doing the Faber short courses and currently doin

Review of January 2018 - lost weight, socialised with others, completed my beta-read, doing my courses.

Hello everyone, Just checking in about my goals and life in general. It's all good. What went well. I took in packed lunches for at least four days a week. This was just hummus, sprouts, grated carrot sandwich. So very vegan.  I also cooked dinner a few times a night rather than eating junk food or takeaway. So a lot healthier. I finally have a social life of sorts. In my last job - it was work, home and see family on weekends. I was so drained and tired so this new job has made such a difference, that I can go out and meet people.  So I go out with some drinking mates once a week. It's a nice evening out of the house and away from social media or the internet. It's mostly small talk but its nice. I'm doing my photoshop course. That is coming along nicely, that picture is from one of my practice sessions. I'm doing a couple of writing courses which are intense. What hasn't gone well. I need to focus on having more routines, and breaking tasks

Lost some weight, learning photo shop, going for writing classes.

Hey Everyone, Hope your week has been good. Nothing to write about but let's roll, anyhow. Signed up for Photoshop classes Well I got free Photoshop from work. Yeah, I'm rolling like that so I've enrolled for some Photoshop classes at an evening class. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of my work as I progress. Why pay money when you learn off the youtube and other free internet tutorials on the internet? you ask.   True but its not the same. I get to learn off a pro who said I can ask him questions about my project. I was straight up when it came to my turn about why I enrolled. It's a ten week basic course and I want to make my own book covers. Now this isn't about saving money because to be fair the classes aren't cheap.  But it's about satisfaction.
