Current novel-in-progress
Still writing and not much progress to give but I hope things get quicker. I'm still in the first half of ACT TWO, which is the middle. So basically about 35% of the book is written, and I still have 65% to go. So I'm working steadily toward that.
Other hobbies
I've started doing graphics again and hopefully will be about to design my own covers. I went on a course a year ago but forgot everything since I didn't have time practice and was still writing the book, and you can see above the book is still only 35% into the next draft.
However I attended a few writerly conferences and was inspired about book covers and the amount of effort that when into them. I've always wanted my covers to look attractive and show what the books were about but I realised they also needed to be a marketing tool. I mean I knew that but hearing it said over and over again by different publishing industry people made it drive home.
I love courses and found some book design ones but they was way above my budget. Normally, I have a decent price point I can afford, maybe pretend it will pay back. I was nearly tempted to actually pay for one of the courses at the higher price point until I looked at the course curriculum/outline and decided not for me.
Because my last course was £400 which is about $520 (todays lower exchange rate) but when I went to was close to about $700, for that I got a good general introduction. I was happy at the time because I managed to design the covers I wanted so that was worth it for me.
But I thought, I'm just doing it for general interest so I might as well just get up my old notes, also my work provides a learning package to online courses provider. On that platform are a lot of graphics etc.
The only thing is that I'll have to do more independent study of the covers maybe get some tips from youtube but to be fair, I enjoy it so let's see. Maybe I'll post a cover each time....a result of what I've been working on.
Yes please, I would love to see the cover, or a draft, when you have completed one. Such fun, to be there at the beginning of creativity!
